Recently, I was on the news to discuss 3 Tips For a Summer Work Reset. Summer is the ideal time in Las Vegas to refocus on your purpose, both professionally and personally, and take stock of where you are and if you’re still on the right path to your ultimate goals.
#1 Collaborate or Hire: Summertime in Las Vegas tends to slow down a bit for some businesses. Your clients may be traveling to escape the extreme heat or busy tending to their kids who are home from school. This is an excellent opportunity for you to travel or maybe indulge in self-care. While you’re busy “doing you”, you need to find people to handle your day-to-day responsibilities. That would entail either collaborating with others who compliment your business or hiring someone. I recently hired someone and while delegating tasks can be challenging for this solopreneur who is used to doing everything myself, it’s nice to know I have someone who can cover for me when I need to step away.
#2 Get Out of the House: Working from home is nice and all, but you miss out such incredible social interactions. Join a coworking space. They’re flexible in terms of length of commitment (day passes or monthly memberships), they offer a variety of pricing options, and they have events and programming to help build your business and foster a sense of community. There is such a wide variety of businesses in a coworking space, you’re sure to meet some potential collaborators make some new friends who you can watch perform with their rock band (kinda specific, I know). Join a trade organization. I have made such valuable connections over the years from being involved in organizations such as NAIOP, CCIM, and now as a Board member of NAWBO. Attending industry events and social gatherings is a fantastic way to develop more personal relationships among business owners and will introduce you to potential collaborators as mentioned in #1.
#3 Professional Development: Each Sunday, I have a ritual of looking on Facebook Events and Eventbrite for professional and personal programs to attend the following week. I look at the speakers and facilitators of these events and determine if they are people I want to meet or organizations I want to align with. I check to see which events my friends are attending and I look to see what kind of programs generate the most interest. The Coop also hosts events for professional and personal development. You can find those on our events page.
